Darb 1718 Contemporary Art & Culture Center implemented an intensive community development project through artistic recycling, funding four larger workshops and a series of 5 smaller workshops. I initiated to organize and implement one of the intensive workshops, in close collaboration with Takween. In the workshop the participants created many play elements out of recycled tires together with the children from the neighborhood. The (en)tire team consists out of me, architect Ahmed Borham and Alyaa Taha from Takween integrated development office / Tadamun.

This playground, for which I designed the preliminary design at Carve, is aiming at the increase of inclusive play. The playground is designed especially for disabled children, but this is explicitely not visible.... resulting in a playground challenging ALL children - disabled or not - to play together. The circular ramp invites children to get to a great height with their wheelchairs or tribikes. The climbingwall, climbing ropes, trampoline, twisting pot, suprising holes and caves, a hammock, a slide and firemanpole, and the huge sandpit make it an extremely loved playground for all. During the degin process we kept all disabilities in mind - auditive, visually, physically of mentally - to make the playground perfectly suitable and challenging for children according to their own abilities. http://www.carve.nl/?pm5=436&lg=en

This playground, for which I designed the preliminary design at Carve, is aiming at the increase of inclusive play. The playground is designed especially for disabled children, but this is explicitely not visible.... resulting in a playground challenging ALL children - disabled or not - to play together. Spread out on the lawn as a red folded napkin, this appealing playground invites all children to run on the zig-zag ramp, climb on top of the plot, slide down, turn, swing and use the hidden communication spots. During the degin process we kept all disabilities in mind - auditive, visually, physically of mentally - to make the playground perfectly suitable and challenging for children according to their own abilities. http://www.carve.nl/?pm5=487&lg=en

At Carve I was part of the design-team for this schoolyard of a unique school in which four different types of education share one building and one schoolyard. A challenging task in which the schoolyard has to suit all children with different (dis)abilities, I was project manager and part of the design team of this unique project in Carve.

Very happy to work on the design of 3 schoolyards. Current situation is very monotomous & concrete tiles ... lots to be improved.

1. Schoolyard of Het UNIVERSUM, school for Special needs children, aiming for more natural playground

2. Schoolyard of HET TWISKE, aiming for a schoolyard where children can get lost and invent their own games again

3. Schoolyard of DE KRIJTMOLEN, one big concrete area, these children need to be challenged, use their fantasy and discover nature on their schoolyard again

CURRENT SITUATION of one of the schoolyards ... as you can see, HIGH NEED for fantasy & nature:)

Design a " neighborhood meeting table", my design was one of the 10 designs chosen to be realised out of 80 other designs.

A true community table should serve everyone: a hang-out place for youngsters, a table suitable for standing people or people in wheelchairs, a climbing object for young children, a play element for all.

The hands are the prints of surrounding neighbours.
